New Targeted DM campaign

And that’s a wrap for Day #2 :))

Yesterday I published the very first issue of Unheard Roots.

Today, I sent our very first cold DMs to promote Unheard Roots.

Here is how I structured the campaign:

  1. I found newsletters with similar audiences & niche

  2. Scraped their followers that had their DMs open

  3. Sent a coldDM campaign via colddm.me to all of their followers

I was planning to run this for StarterStory but turns out they were not on Twitter.

I decided to set up a campaign for Morning Brew followers instead.

Startup News = Startup Stories

Here is the message sent to 417 followers of Morning Brew on Twitter that have their DMs open and over 10 followers:

Hey, since you follow Morning Brew thought you might be interested in Unheard Roots. Unheard Roots is a newsletter that covers the backstory of major VC-backed and Bootstrapped startups!

As I write this the campaign is still in progress and the results won’t start coming in until 2~ hours.

I’ll share the response rate and conversion rate in the next couple of issues.

Format & Frequency for Unheard Roots

I’m going to publish an issue every Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday.

Towards the morning of Eastern Time.

As for the format, I’m thinking:

  1. The entrepreneurs name and what they were doing before founding their startup

  2. How they came across the idea

  3. What they did after coming across the idea

  4. And maybe a little bit about their early days

I’m still not sure how to balance being concise and elaborate.

I want to keep the issue short but also make sure it’s beneficial.

I’m probably going to put a poll on each issue and evaluate the results on each experiment.
